In this Bissell 1305 PowerGlide pet vacuum review, we’ll look at the pros and cons of this model. We’ve also included observations about the vacuum cleaner and its warranty that are of interest to those considering buying this vacuum.
Pros of the Bissell 1305 PowerGlide
- The Bissell model 1305 has a list price of $150, and you can often find new vacuums of this model for an even lower price. It comes in both red and hot pink.
- This vacuum has swivel steering for easy maneuvering around the house.
This vacuum has a crevice tool, extended reach hose and pet TurboEraser tool to pick up all those pet hair wads they keep leaving behind. The Turbo Eraser is designed specifically to pick up pet hair.
- The vacuum has excellent suction, especially on the front edge of the vacuum.
- The brush roll can be turned off so that the vacuum doesn’t scratch up hardwood floors or wear down the carpet when you are using the hose and tools to clean stairs or shelves.
- The ten foot long hose lets you clean stairs without having to lug the vacuum cleaner up the stairs with you.
- It has a long power cord that in addition to the extension hose lets you clean most rooms without having to move the vacuum cleaner. The power cord is a whopping 26 feet long.
- The vacuum comes with an extra Febreeze foam filter to remove pet odors, in addition to its standard air filters. There is also a pre-filter near the motor.
- Emptying the vacuum’s canister is simple.
Cons of the Bissell 1305 PowerGlide
- The vacuum weighs 16 pounds. Add in the high power suction, and it can be hard to push around the house on high power.
- The vacuum lacks a height adjustment.
- The fine mesh filter for the motor air intake is intended to capture dirt and debris that might otherwise clog the motor. The filter is removable, but it is a challenge to get it out to clean.
- The vacuum lacks clear instructions on how to attach the handle or attach tools to the hose. The handle must be assembled, and the hose is a challenge to connect.
- The vacuum head is too large to go under very low furniture.
Observations
Bissell has been rated the third most reliable vacuum cleaner brand by Consumer Reports, according to its 2014 Buyer’s Guide. Only 7% of its vacuums needed repair in a given year. Hoover’s repair rate was 8%, while premium brand Electrolux was 10%.
Bissell advertises a whole suite of specialized tools you can use with the vacuum. That is at additional cost. The vacuum overall lacks on-board storage for the tools it comes with, much less additional ones you may purchase.
They advertise the 9X cyclonic system, but it cleans just as well as Bissell vacuums with three cyclones. Adding a few more cyclones only adds to the machine’s complexity.
The vacuum has three filters in all. They are supposed to be cleaned or replaced every six months. Bissell offers filters for the vacuum as only a complete set, instead of letting you buy them individually.

Bissell offers a five year limited warranty for this model. Bissell’s warranty says it will replace defective and malfunctioning parts, though they reserve the right to use re-manufactured parts in the repair, not necessarily new parts for your broken new vacuum. One caveat is that the warranty requires the work to be done at a Bissell authorized service center. You can find out where one is near you by going to the Bissell website. If there isn’t a Bissell approved repair center near you, you’d have to mail it in to get warranty work, and that’s almost half the cost of the vacuum.
