Dyson V6 Review

Dyson have always been at the top of the pile when it comes to vacuum manufacturers because of the thought that goes into their designs, their popularity with the buying public and the legendary use of suction and power that is promised in the majority of their machines. The DC59 series, which was the pinnacle of power, versatility and convenience in the Dyson range has now been upgraded to form the Dyson V6 series.

Comparing The New Models In Dyson’s Latest V6 Range

This set of machines is said to be similar in power and weight to a DC59 but many have more attachments, improved heads and better filtration to ensure an even better performance across multiple surfaces. This Dyson V6 review will look at four of the new cordless machines in the range – the basic V6, the Motorhead, the Animal and the Absolute – to highlight the improvements that have been made and the individual differences between the models.

The standard Dyson V6 Cordless Vacuum

Dyson V6 Cordless VacuumThe first model to look at is the most basic V6 that introduces those new upgrades. Dyson always pride themselves on their suction and this is once again at the heart of the V6 range. The new V6 motor, with its 15 cyclones, spins 110,00 times a minute to capture particles that are just 0.3 microns small – so the cleaning power should be exceptional. Another key feature is the fact that this is a cordless vacuum with a 20 minute battery life and interesting new docking station. This station is wall-mounted to charge the vacuum out of the way and has the added benefit of providing storage for the accessories.

Another V6 feature that Dyson like to boast about is the balanced shape. The motor and batteries are near the grip so it can be used with as much ease on the ground as up high and it also has the benefits of the simple method of converting the vacuum into a handheld model for stairs and a low-profile cleaner head – something that is seen across the range. There is also the promise that the Dyson V6 is for every floor type due to this versatility; naturally, some of the variants within the V6 series are better adapted to deal with different situations than others so it important to look at each model in turn.

Dyson V6 Motorhead Cordless Vacuum

Dyson V6 MotorHeadThis machine is all about power and a deep clean and this is seen in the direct drive cleaner head, which has a powerful motor for deep cleaning of carpets for ground-in dirt that is said to be 75% more powerful than the standard V6 model. Power is a key component to that new V6 motor too as it promises to “fling” dirt into the bin to make it easier to clean out and more hygienic. In some cases, buyers are still finding that the canister is a little small but it appears to be fairly easy to empty out. Additionally, this V6 motorhead comes with a crevice tool for tackling those hard to reach spots.

What is interesting with this vacuum is that it has this power in a cordless machine as each of these V6 models relies on battery power and that docking station. One of interesting aspects of this design is the run-time enhancing trigger grip that carefully controls the way that power is uses and ensures that the machine is energy efficient. The idea of the max power mode of the V6 range also comes in handy here – “6 minutes of higher suction for more difficult tasks”.

Dyson V6 Animal Cordless Vacuum

Dyson V6 AnimalGoing back to the notion mentioned above of 0.3 microns, this does not mean much on paper but when you consider that a stand of hair is 5 microns, it bodes well for the vacuum’s ability to handle pet hair, dust and other allergens – something that is essential with a Dyson that calls itself the ‘Animal’. The promise is that “the air that leaves the machine is cleaner than the air you breathe”. Again, this is where the simple act of emptying the bin is so well-received as this canister can be emptied with the touch of a button.

The other advantage of choosing this particular V6 model is the range of attachments on offer. It has the crevice tool of the Motorhead but also a mini soft dusting brush and a mini motorized tool specifically designed for pet hair. This brush has stiff nylon bristles that make it ideal for removing those stubborn dog and cat hairs from furniture but it is worth noting that the life of the battery decreases to 14 minutes when this motorized tool is attached because of the power consumption.

Dyson V6 Absolute Cordless Vacuum

Dyson V6 AbsoluteAs the name suggests the last option to be discussed in this Dyson V6 review, the ‘Absolute’ model, is the one that is most well-rounded of the Dyson V6 series and able to handle the most jobs. It has all the attachments and features of the other models for a more complete package plus the addition of the soft roll cleaner head and post motor filter. This ensures that this machine really is a highly versatile offering as it has the direct drive head of the Motorhead for deep carpet cleaning, the soft-roller for hard floors, the duster and the crevice tool. This is where that carefully shifted center of gravity comes into play; the Absolute can be used in the corners and up in the ceiling with little trouble and this is enhanced by the lightweight of just 5lbs and the cordless design that has been so advantageous throughout the range.

A Dyson V6 review: which is the right model for you?

As you can see, there are plenty of features shared among this set of four Dyson V6 models that highlight the upgrades over the old DC59 models – such as that clever charging dock, powerful suction and convenient shape – but there are also important differences between them that showcase individual potential. The Motorhead has the power and drive for a deep clean, the Animal has the attachments and hygienic qualities pet owners desire and the Absolute brings it all into one big versatile package.
