Honda EU7000iS Review – A Powerful 7000 Watt Inverter Generator

The Honda EU7000is is probably the most expensive 7,000W generator you’ll find anywhere. I’m sure a lot of people might be asking if this generator is worth all that money. This review of the Honda EU7000is should help answer that question. I’m of the opinion that Honda generators are the best there is. Even if you agree with me on this, you might still be wondering why this model is one of the most expensive from this prestigious brand.

The Most Powerful Inverter Generator on the Market

Few inverter generators produce more than 4,000 watts, leaving them fairly limited if you want to provide backup power to your home or use the generator on a busy jobsite. With a 7,000W peak capacity and a rated (continuous) output of 5,500W, the Honda EU7000is has the power to supply refrigerators, air conditioners, along with most generally used household appliances, and power tools. You also have the benefit of a highly sophisticated true sine wave inverter. By now, most people are familiar with inverter generators, but I’ll provide a quick list of the major benefits.

  • Low Harmonic Distortion (HD) is the primary reason why inverter generators have become so popular. This provides “clean” power that will not harm sensitive electronic equipment.
  • Economy mode allows the engine to run at a lower RPM when power demand is less than 25% of the rated load. This reduces noise levels and fuel consumption.
  • Parallel connection ports allow you to use two EU7000is generators in tandem, synchronizing the output sine waves. This will double your output current to 14,000 peak watts and 11,000W continuous power.

Built Honda Tough

By now Honda reliability and durable build quality is the stuff of legends. The Honda GX390 EFI, fitted the EU7000is, is arguably the best generator engine ever built. Not only will this engine outlast just about any other, it has the most advanced technology and electronic fuel injection. This engine has an electric starter, as well as a recoil system for emergencies.

Honda are renowned for superb and trustworthy dealership service, with an extensive network of certified dealerships across the US. They also offer one of the best warranties, 3-years for both residential and commercial use.

The ultra-heavy-duty frame and metal sound insulation panels are as strong as it gets. Most modern inverter generators have lightweight plastic enclosures that look cool, but don’t offer the same level of protection when transporting the machine. Though, this does make it quite a heavy beast. The Honda EU7000is weighs 261-pounds. The inclusion of great fold down handles and a heavy-duty wheel kit makes it possible to move the generator across fairly rough terrain with ease.

One of the Quietest Generators

Large generators are notoriously noisy, making them problematic in campsites and residential neighborhoods with noise level restrictions. Well, the Honda EU7000is certainly bucks the trend, it is quieter than most generators half the size.

Thanks to the superb engine design, advanced muffler (with USDA approved spark arrestor), and dense sound insulation panels, it is quieter than a normal speaking voice. Even at maximum rated power output (5,500W), the EU7000is is barely audible at 58dBA. At 25% of the rated load, it is a whisper quiet 52dBA.

Outstanding Fuel Economy

The Honda EU7000is has a large 5.1 gallon steel gas tank, with a fuel gauge. On a full tank, the EU7000i will run for up to 18-hours at 25% load and 6.5-hours at full rated load.

Comprehensive User Panel

The Honda EU7000is has a well laid out user interface, recessed to protect it from damage. This has a all your LED warning lights in plain sight: output indicator, overload alarm, and oil check warning. Below these is a wonderful iMonitor digital data center providing vital information:

  • Running hours
  • Engine RPM
  • Output Wattage
  • Diagnostic information

It has a selector switch for 120V or 120V/240V operation and a push button for easy electric starting. The Honda EU7000iS also offers remote controlled starting and shutoff.

The circuits have simple push to reset circuit breakers and GFCI protection on two of the 120V 20A outlets, making this an OSHA compliant jobsite generator. There’s a switch for economy mode and a 30A main overload circuit breaker, when this breaker trips an alarm will sound and an overload warning light will ignite.

Power Receptacles:

  • 2 X 125V 20A Duplex outlets
  • 1 X 125V 30A locking outlet
  • 1 X 125V/250V locking outlet

Quality Worth Paying For

Perhaps not everyone will be convinced that the Honda EU7000is is worth the price. But I, for one, think it is. Not only does the brand have a reputation for building some of the best power equipment in the world, but this is their most advanced generator yet. It is the only 7,000 Watt generator to offer inverter technology and this also means the option to double the power output using the parallel kit (sold separately).

The EU7000is is built to last with a great warranty. In addition to all this, it is one of the most fuel efficient and quietest generators on the market. These are certainly compelling reasons to rank this as the ultimate 7,000W generator.

Just finished reading your review of the Honda 7000 generator and agree with you that it is a great generator and it should be for price.

I was hoping the article would address a major flaw in the design of the electric start system on 2020 model. From my and my neighbours experiences this winter we quickly discovered the electric starting is not designed to function at temperatures below -15C (+5F). Below this temperature the 15 amp fuse blows.

So those in climates that experience cold temperatures or colder be aware the “Cold Climate Technology” label is very misleading. If this was an automobile it would be considered unacceptable but Honda is aware of the fault and do not have solution they are willing to implement.

Making this fault know to potential buyers will help the issue be addressed.

    Thanks for your article

No longer most powerful inverter at only7000/5500 watts.
An ad on this same page shows the Predator 8750/7000 watts, which is already being phased out in favor of even newer Predator 9500/7600 watts.
